Gmail’s Importance markers - for the busy people

Many of you might have noticed the new feature in Gmail the “importance markers” that was rolled few days back. I wanted to see how accurate it would be before I blog about it, and yes it is pretty good specially for those busy people out there who want to filtering more important messages among the many they receive daily.

This feature was not rolled out for all users, so if you have not seen any thing like this then keep an eye on your Gmail inbox you might see some thing like this.

Another good thing about it, is that you can make it learn by giving your inputs as what messages it should consider as important and what not in future.

The change called Lenny

Tags: ,

Recently I upgraded my Debian Etch to Lenny. Needless to say I love it. The whole process couldn’t have been smoother.

From kernel image to the clear and glassy icons every thing is improved.

You can check the official Debian Lenny release page for the complete documentation on how to upgrade.

Or directly check the upgrade steps here for the people who know what they are doing.

Hope its smooth for every body out there!

Balbir, Thanks for everything and good luck!

We’ll miss Dr.Balbir Thomas who is leaving our organization Brainwave Corporation this month.

We enjoyed your company, every thing from local Paan to full blown heated arguments on theology (we agree to disagree), algorithms, programming, and of course the much appreciated, and informative technical discussions.

Here is a a typical B.Thomas (Computer Science, University Professor) for the readers:

Suhail: Amit can you come here quick?

B.Thomas: What's the run time efficiency of Amit?

Suhail: WHAT ???? What are you talking about?

B.Thomas: It's not (nlogn times) its (2 Leg n times), where n is the number of feet from Amit's place to you.

Suhail: AAhhhh for Emacs sake stop it man!

Well, best of luck for your future endeavors.

2 Terabytes on a memory card

sdxc memory card with 2tb capaity exfat

At the 2009 International CES the next-generation SD memory card — SDXC — specification was announced and yes the capacity is 2 TB, now thats what I call storage, I think we are going to see a lot of CD’s trashed out? SD interface read/write speeds will cross to 104 MB per second in this year, with a goal of 300 megabytes per second.

The SD Association plan to release the open standard in the first quarter of 2009. The SDXC currently utilizes Microsoft’s exFAT file system to support its huge capacity and compatibitlity with flash media. The SDXC are planned to be in the market this year.

If this technology is successfull, we are looking at very light laptops, handhelds etc. Happy storing.
